Associate professor Guanghui Hua, professor Chris Schmit and lecturer Kyungnan “Karen” Min are evaluating the efficiency of fresh and weathered woodchips at removing nitrates from tile drainage water.

Dr. Lynn Sargeant has been working on updating the art in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences office. Located on her back wall are two new pieces of art, creating an eye-catching backdrop to the many Zoom meetings she holds and an opportunity to highlight the work of students in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. These pieces of art were created by Alison Simon, a fifth-year senior in the School of Design, the School of Communication and Journalism and the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences.

Nicholas Uilk, an instructor in ����Ӱ��’s Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, has been named a recipient of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities national teaching awards in recognizing excellence in agricultural sciences teaching and student engagement.

Professor Padu Krishnan of ����Ӱ��’s Department of Dairy and Food Science received the 2020 Edith A. Christensen Award for Outstanding Contributions in Analytical Methodology from the Cereals & Grains Association. He is the first ����Ӱ�� faculty member to get the award, which recognizes the central role analytical methods play in cereal and grain research.

The future of America’s national mammal continued to brighten this week as officials from ����Ӱ��, the National Bison Association and the National Buffalo Foundation formally launched the Center of Excellence for Bison Studies, to be headquartered at SDSU’s West River Research and Extension facility in Rapid City.

Nearly 2,500 adolescents and adults in rural communities across South Dakota are better prepared to prevent opioid misuse, thanks to free educational seminars provided through SDSU Extension’s Strengthening the Heartland Program.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new South Dakota Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (ADRDL) on the ����Ӱ�� campus in Brookings will be held on Sept. 6. The ribbon cutting and a short program will begin at 4:30 p.m. and guided public tours will immediately follow the program, with the last tour departing at 7:30 p.m.

Two Oglala Lakota College students explored careers in science and agriculture through the Future Agriculture and Science Taskforce Research and Extension Experiences for Undergraduates fellowship program this summer.

Andrea Bjornestad, an assistant professor in the ����Ӱ�� Department of Counseling and Human Development, received the E. Gordon Poling Administrator Award from the South Dakota Counseling Association.

Gu and his team are making a biosensor that detects DNA segments in animal and environmental samples within a few hours. To do this, Gu is working with virologist Feng Li, a professor in the Department of Biology and Microbiology, as well as Assistant Professors John McMaine and Rachel McDaniel of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering.
