A “Dairy” Important Stamp

Displayed is a piece of paper that has been imprinted with an ink dairy stamp.
Pictured is a dairy stamp from the early 1900s.

Putting one’s name on a product represents the pride taken in creating that item. This week’s What’s New Wednesday features a butter labeling stamp. This stamp was inked and engrained in the wrapper of the butter. Home and small dairies would label their merchandise this way. This particular butter stamp hails from the Holabird area in Hyde County. Hans Aasby, the great-grandfather of the donor, owned the dairy. This stamp was used in the early 1900s. These stamps were “dairy” important to milk operations.
