Land Judging
Land Judging has been a useful skill for many people. In 4-H and FFA, students learn to judge the quality of the land for farming and homesite development. In this week’s Throwback Thursday, FFA students learn about this practice. They stand in a pit to look at the layers (horizons) of soil to determine its value. Taken by Burt Seeker in November 1954, these young people work on taking notes and learning from Merle Switzer, who stands in the pit. The man on the far left identified as Leonard Ladd. The photo was taken near Mitchell, SD in Davison County.
